Welkommen 2022 ❤❤

Hi there! its been a while since my last post here and finally it's gonna be my first post this year. How's life treating you so far? well enough? feeling finally get a hang of pandemic which will turn to be an endemic? For me, so far, my theme for the past months were about moving and adjusting myself in new environment.

Adjusting in new place has never been easy for me, especially one during working remote period. One should be an active side to over communicate their intention and expectation. I've tried one time and I dont think it went well hahaha but hopefully this time it will be better.

Anyway, I've just recently turned 32 years old this year.Feel so old especially if you work in tech where people are getting younger and younger. I felt this year I became more content about myself and know what would please and distasteful for me. I have embraced life and the unexpected things with open arms. Try to be a more optimistic person and not too jaded HAHAHA.

I'll try to create new stories and posts more often than before to improve my writing skills as I think it becomes more more difficult nowadays. We will see lah ya.Hopefully my next post can be better and full of learning so that my readers can enjoy my post better HAHAHAHA

Till then,

Pandemic checkpoint

It's been 3 weeks when Indo has got into crazy pandemic where the number of COVID patients are getting so high. We have constantly reached into more than 35000 patients each day. My friend told me that the ICU patients are getting younger which means the virus is getting stronger and more dangerous.

The people who got infected are getting closer to my circle and the pain and suffering are getting more real. It is hard to stay sane and focus to the tasks at hand since the environment is so out of control. Reading books are no longer fun, even the cheesy romantic one which usually one of my guilty pleasure.

Recently, I've found new hobby which is coloring! Just some fun to feed my design frill lol

I think this new hobby can help me to get a sense of getting control of some stuff and finishing some tasks which provides small wins. I am thinking to pick up some old hobby such as exercising and eating some healthy food to loose weight, not to be skinny and pretty, just to be healthy. Also, I think I need to reduce my time in using social media, especially Instagram as I just realized I usually spend around (almost) 2 hours everyday.

I think having some habits, will sooth my anxiety and needs to control some stuff.

This post is intended to be lengthy without any clear key message, because I realized during this crazy pandemic what important is not being productive and efficient, is only about surviving.

Knowledge and Turbulance

Hi there!

This is my first post in 2021, although its april already 😂

Just got inspiration from a crime documentary film in Netflix "Why did you kill me"

It's really heartbroken to see how you can be a wrong person in wrong place at the wrong time and ended up death. How far "revenge" can drive you to do irrational thing which made you deft to your conscience and made you took a decision with irreversible consequences for the rest of your life.

I wrote about grudge a few years back and how it could differ me to feel happy and joy in my life. Looking for outside validation and/or somethings to be happened so that we can feel happy is not sustainable way to live the life.

Therefore, Im learning ways to prevent the situation to grow from dissatisfaction to grudge or even make me seeking for revenge.  I learn to deal with my burst of emotion and be sensible that not all dissatisfaction should end-up be forgiven right away. It took a process to deal with the turbulance.

I found that doing reflection from time to time can help me to see thing clearer and know. Instead of just lashing it out or ranting around, I learnt to cope with my anger and dissatisfaction through writing my thoughts and labeling my feelings. Or even, when people asking for my responses, sometimes I can be blunt and says "I dont know what to do now and what I expect you to do for me. Let's rest it for a night and I will get back to you later"

By knowing myself better, what is my mental state, what make me happy, what make me tick and how it impacts me, it help me to deal (or even thrive) during this uncertain time and be more level headed with life

Like John F. Kennedy said "In a time of turbulence, it is more true than ever that knowledge is power"

so then, be the force of knowledge to conquer the turbulence 💪

Chasing dream and Living the dream

Watching EmilyinParis in Netflix, really got inspired to apply for jobs in Paris. I just realized that ive never really think about living and settling down in Paris. Before watching this show, I always thought that the language will be the biggest barrier for me to get the job there. But then I realized, I
have a master

degree from great french univ,  A FREAKING MASTER DEGREE and the classes were delivered in French and I freaking nailed it. Incroyable!

Maybe the only barrier from reaching my dream is my own insecurities to speak the life that I want loudly and actually put efforts on to reach that.

I realized that this had happened before, when i thought I will never able to study in France, but my mom, with her persistence, has supported me to work and improve my candidature and applying for schools in France. Even though it takes longer for me to get the dream (yeah one year longer) but I finally got accepted and started my life in France in August 2015.

This film got me so hyped and stimulated my brain to chase my dream for living abroad. Because I know, I fucking know that I get the capabilities and skills to compete in global markets. Yes, my french and german may be a bit rusty, but hellooooooo, I speak 4 freaking languages!!

It's freaking fantastic for an Asia girl!!

De toutes les façons, Will surely update about my journey here!

Thanks Emily for reminding me about my dream <3

gros bisous!

Ciao Tonight Show!

I was such a big fan of Tonight show for more than 5 years. This show had been my friend every time I felt homesick when I was in Toulouse. It may sound like a freak, but I felt less alone and less stress to deal with my problems there. It became my go to entertainment every time I was feeling down or beaten up with my situation I've faced.

I was such a fan, I even recommended this show to my family and friends. I even managed to hook my sister to the show through direct verbatim which I've memorized like a weirdo hahaha
Even, when my sister was in Indonesia, I and my brother accompanied her to watch the show live from the studio. Never in my wildest imagination I will become a penonton bukan bayaran

My sister, me and my brother as penonton bukan bayaran

But nothing last forever, all we have is what's between Hello and Goodbye,

So I finally have to say goodbye to this beloved show. After 7 years airing, the show has been finally ended. One of the reason I think was the rating. Even though they have tried to add more spice to it, by switching the schedule, adding more people, having more various game and inviting very insightful guest, it didnt do much (IMHO) to the rating. Many of the viewers were watching the show through their Youtube channel instead of Television. Even for me who claimed as the show big fan. Yes, I can binge watching the show for hours, but through the Youtube, not Television. This behavior didnt do much to their ratings and how the execs measure the show success.

Even when one of the host told us to watch the last episode in Television, I watched it through Youtube again. After watching the last episode, I did some reflection, why I prefered Youtube over TV? what drove me to it?

Then I realized, in Youtube, I have kinda the sneak peak about the episode through the title. In this digital world where users expect to have the autonomy to choose the content and have limited concentration span due to instant gratification mentality, it's kinda too hard to watch the show day-by-day and wait patiently for around 1 hour to be surprised whether the show was gonna be fun. Youtube allows me to have this flexibility for choosing which part I want to consume and when.

In addition, one the part I love from Youtube is the comments column. There's something magical about this column in Youtube which cant be fulfilled by watching in TV. I cannot really describe why I love it, but it added more joy while consuming the show and made me reply some parts just to get their (the commentator) points LOL

On serious note, I think these points shows how important one must adopt to changes. With shifting user behavior, companies are expected to be flexible and fast to pivot their business model to survive. Especially during corona pandemic like now, company which will survive is one that agile enough to pivot and smart enough to get the qualities expected from the users and use it to their benefits. I believe that you dont have to make any mistakes to lose, you just have to be slower on innovating than your competitors which will kick you from the race, like what happened with NOKIA.

But regardless what happened, I would like to bid farewell to my favorite show. Thanks for accompanying me and filling my lonely nights with laughs and information.  I closes this heartfelt post with Vincent's word on the last episode

Bukan pertemuan yang ku sesali, tapi perpisahan yang ku tangisi.

Til we meet again Tonight Show,

Raisa

Toulouse, Airbus, France

I just realize that I have never wrote anything about my time living in Toulouse, France. Well, given that I rarely write anything in blog since 2018, so I think now im going to tell you my experience living there as part of creating the writing habit I have tried to build during quarantine period.

I continued my education here in France and it's beyond my wildest dream to finally able to study in Toulouse. I always have this dream to visit France and interact with French people in French. I have never thought that dream will ever come true, even when I took a french course for more than 2 years. Therefore, when it's finally came true, I still needed to pinch myself.

Speaking about Toulouse, this city is the 4th biggest city and also the best city in France for student. It's full of young people which give more spice of this city dynamic.

In addition, AIRBUS has one of their headquarters here in this city. Therefore, there are many aerospace companies are also located in Toulouse. As a girl who was growing up in third world country and studied business, aerospace industry was a very foreign domain for me. It had been very difficult to imagine the way this industry works. I was very fortunate to have the chance to get the inside scoop about this industry and this particular company when I joined a competition from AIRBUS. I even got the chance to visit one of their factory, YES THEIR VERY OWN AIRPLANE FACTORY.  Yes, me, this business student who had never visited ANY KIND of factory, but got the opportunity to see a very big and complicated airplane factory. Im forever grateful with this experience.

I think my experience joining this competition needs to be written in separate post LOL

So if I may continue talking about my time in Toulouse, I believe I have learned more about developing myself as a person. I really learned about how to deal with ambiguity and manage my budget wisely. I learned the hard way about when I was in shitty situation, I have to think with my brain not with emotion. I really applied my mom motto which is "swipe your tears and think". Those words became my mantra to navigate during one of the hardest time in Toulouse. In addition, I've become more mature so that I can let go stuff that used to bother me as I know those are outside my control.

I think im not really succeful to explain any points about my time there HAHAHAHA

Maybe when I have more patience and willingness to revisit this and edit it then Im gonna share you more points

Maybe.

Confinement and myself

Entering the 13th day of confinement, I was quite surprise with how well Im surviving in this situation. Comparing with other situation which required me to work from home (during the presidential result announcement in 2019), I think I waaaay much better to cope with the situation now.

I dont really know why, maybe because I know it's going to be a long period, or maybe I have successfully set-up my expectation about how long this period is going to last, or maybe simply I have become a mature adult who can separate between things that I can control and which are not.

I think to deal with the uncertainty, I channel my need to control the situation by treating all the things I've done as a project which has time and place to do it. Like the exercise. I plan carefully the exercise could be done through the resources I have. It also apply for other things during my personal time, I try to do some handy works like decorating my bedroom, printing some photos from vacation years ago or sewing my own clothes.

In addition to that, I do believe keeping the routines does help to cope with this situation. I try to exercise every morning and start my work at 10am till 7pm. I make a to do list in the morning which provides sense of achievement whenever I manage to finish the tasks. Although some of the time, it might take longer than that, but I think the experience of working as a freelancer some years ago, really does help me to be able working by myself or virtually while still respecting my personal time.

Maybe some of my advice could be relevant for you, maybe not.

But for me, there always be a rainbow after the rain.

Yes, I know the situation is difficult with all the uncertainty ahead of us, but at the same time, I am excited to see how this situation can shift (maybe) our generation. From working behavior to way we run our lives. I can not to wait to see how companies could evolve in this situation. I want to learn how agile those fancy executives can come with new business model that will be sustainable for the future.  I want to know how the artist and art societies will absorb and interpret this situation into their artifacts.

All in all, Im kind of proud with myself about how well I can thrive in this situation, how about you?

Raisa.

Love yourself

A couple of days ago a good friend of mine came to visit me here in Germany. I like to pick her brain as she is an ambitious person while still maintain a good faith in God. I can chitchat with her for so many hours and talk about many things, from shallow topic: about our mutual friends, or deep topic, life, career, world economy.

Long story short, we arrived to one topic about why I have never felt enough about myself. I told her that rationally, I should count my blessings instead of my unattained goals. But, talk is always easier than walking the talk. I’ve told her that for some years, couple of my good friends told me that “You deserve to be happy”, “You deserve to be loved” or simply said “You should look down more often”.
And you know what my dear-friend-from-Indonesia said?

“I think you should love yourself more, Ta”
“What do you mean?”
“I think as a social person, you really love meet new people. It’s good; it’s actually one of your strength. However, you should try to have more conversation with your inner-self and try to understand yourself better so that you can learn how to love yourself. I think it might be one of the reasons for your falling relationship. If you haven’t loved yourself, how can you believe that other people love you?”

If you have met me in person, trust me, you will never ever guess that I am not a happy person. I can easily fool you to think me as a free spirited person with happy go lucky attitude. Therefore, to receive that feedback from a close friend, it was such a slap in the face. However, some part of me thought this advice worth to try. So I googled “sign of not loving yourself” and I found many interesting articles and suddenly I didn’t feel less normal (alone). HA. If you have the following signs, maybe you are one of us?

First sign is being too hard to myself. My inner critic can be a nasty bitch. It is hard for me to accept that I failed on something. Yes I know that everyone fails from time to time. But knowing it and accepting it are two different animals. Maybe I will try to remember that my success is related to how I handle my failure and setback; the way I handle failure that will set me apart from the rest.

Another sign is how constantly I am comparing myself. Sometimes I wondered why this girl who looks less prettier and less smart than me can have a boyfriend while I am still being single for (quite) sometime. This comparison has done nothing good beside made me feel inadequate. I think I should just focus on loving my life.

Third sign is maybe sometimes I haven’t really honest with my emotion. As an Asian with happy go lucky persona, I have found it hard to accept my emotion such as angry, upset or sad. For some problems which I think too personal to be shared to my close friends, I tend to hold it inside me or write it in my blog. I have never let people get too close to me where they can diagnose my emotion clearly. Even some friends felt that the person who wrote this blogs is a different person with whom they have interacted. I don’t know whether it’s a good thing. However, maybe I should allow myself to feel what needs to be felt so that I can move on and move forward.

Yeah, that’s a bit of conclusion from my latest self-reflection. Maybe I will implement those advises and learn to love myself a bit more. Will surely keep you posted guys J

Cheers,
Raisa

Whining?

Quick update about my life, I have finished my education in France and earned my master degree. I have decided to try out my luck by applying for Jobs in Europe. While waiting for that, I am taking a German course, 3 languages are not enough for me. Yeah, I am THAT ambitious. HA. (im just being sarcastic if you're not notice).

Long story short, living as a Jobseeker always been an interesting phase to start writing a blog. You have plenty of time in your hand and what is better than whining out your misery in Blog while still being productive. HA. (again, Im just being sarcastic).

Anyway, being in this phase is always an unique experience. I have always tried to come up with many solutions to keep my sanity. Just to feel that Im good enough to work somewhere. After rejection and rejection and rejection, dont you think is normal for you to question your competence? your capabilities? your faith in God?.

I have always, ALWAYS, try to be a positive person. Try to see a silver lining in every situation. Try to understand what God's plan for me. Try to remember that God has given me so many blessing.

But still.

It has been many many times my families and my closes friends told me that many people want to have a life like mine. Many people want to achieve what I have achieved. Do not take your achievements and experiences for granted Raisa.

But still.

I tried to remember many reasons why I should be grateful with my life. And it is more than just for my freaking achievements and status. I should remember that no matter how many rejections I had, I still have roof above my head, I still have food on the table, I still have highly function and supportive families.

But still.

A good friend of mine told me "Although we still have roof, food and families, doesnt mean we are not struggling. Doesnt mean we are happy. Doesnt mean we are not allowed to whine".

HA.

Human and their ambitions and their disappointments.

Many many many times I really want to given up. Just want to say "Fuck you God" and then disappeared. But disappeared to where? and who am I to say that shit to God. It's not like God need me more than I need Him.

At some point, I feel tired and burnt out after so many whining, after so many questioning about Life and God.

So maybe for now, I am just going to learn how to keep my head above the water. How to keep my sanity on. And how to be better from myself yesterday.

Maybe after that, just maybe, I can learn how to be a free-spirit Raisa  again who is strong enough to take a leap of faith in God.

Missing you :")

I received the video this morning on one of my whatsapp group. It broke my heart when i realized how true the video is. The video was talking about how time has changed our relationship with our "used" to be gank. How close we were in the college, how easy we were to just hang out and did fool stuff. But now? we were hesitated even just to say hi.

Sometimes, i am wondering, what goes wrong? is it because of the time? is it me who become a jerk? or you become a jerk and not willing to make time for this so called friendship?.

Or is there any reason beside that?

I read an article which is saying "Losing touch with your old college friends is a natural consequence of growing older. It isnt solely up to you to keep every friendship you've ever had alive-some things fade out naturally, because they should. and that's okay".

Really?

This evening, i talked with my other friend regarding this topic. Her answer has succesfully blown my mind. She said "Raisa, people come and ago in our life. It's just like when we were passing by with someone on our way to go somewhere. Sometimes we are meeting this person longer than others because we are on the same road, has the same direction at that time. But when we reach our goal, we are eventually split our way. We should moving forward and continues our journey to reach our other goal. So if you are losing your friend along the way, that's normal. It doesnt mean that one of you is "the jerk". It's just because you are walking on different road".

I found her opinion very interesting because sometimes when bad thing happened in my life, i tended to put the blame on something (it could be on me or other people). But maybe, actually, there's none of the party is the wrong one.

It's just the road that was taken is different.
It's just the situation that has changed.
It's just us who has to grow up.

But you, my dearest friends, yes, you.
I'm still missing you.
Till we meet again,

Raisa

Pushing the boundaries

Have you ever wondered why NASA spends millions of dollar in order to understand Mars?
That’s the first question appear in my mind when I watched the show in National Geography. So what if there’s water in Mars? So what if there’s oxygen in Mars? It’s still an unknown place which is far in the physical distance. We won’t migrate to live there, right?  Not at least for the next 20 years.

So, why we have to understand that? Thanks to my over curiosity, I did a little bit research on the internet to understand the reason. Based on NASA’s website, the objective of this exploration is to heighten up the unknown which can be benefited for the human kind. Frank Stratford, the founder of Marsdrive, wrote that this exploration was meant to test our knowledge, our resourcefulness, and the limits of our abilities in every way.

Limit is the word that usually be put on the same sentence with human.  As a human we have our limit, we can’t do that, because that’s our limit. How we can know our boundaries, if we have never crossed it?

I remember when I was 6 years old. I and my mom went into a public swimming pool. I usually swam in the children pool. However, one time, my Mom asked me to swim in another pool. She even dropped me up from the children pool into another pool and just staring at me from the pool side, I begged to her “mom, I cannot do it, I’m too small for this, I can sink in and die” “Yes of course you can, look at that boy, he’s even smaller than you, if he can do it, why you cannot? You need to be brave, don’t be afraid!”

Yep, afraid of the unknown, scare of change; that’s usually be our limit. Don’t you think that when we are getting older and we tend to be more hesitate to push the boundaries. It could be caused by more understanding on the difference between fantasy and reality. You already knew how hard live could turn when making a mistake by doing a change, by going out from the comfort zone. Oprah winfrey on the Harvard commencement said that “If you constantly pushing yourself higher, higher the law of averages predicts that you will fall at some point”.

Fall, or we can called it failure, is the situation where no bodies want to have.  When you cannot
manage that thing, it probably could turn into a depression where you need an expert help to solve that. I had one experience where everything felt go wrong and world turn into a dark place; where I had to ask for a help from a psychology in order to have a grip with my life again. I wouldn’t say that’s the nicest experience to have. But, like Oprah said “There’s no such thing as failure. It’s okay to feel bad for a little while. Give yourself time to mourn what you think you may lose but the key is to learn from every mistake”

Fearful to make a mistake is another set of the lines which keep us on the box. Since when we make a mistake, we felt wasting our time which can’t get back. So sometimes in order not to waste our time, we stay in that mistake like stay in the wrong job. Let me tell you my wrong job. I used to work in strategic consultant firm where the boss was really intimidating. He really likes to answer a question with a question in a very intimidating way and he didn’t mind to speak his mind out loud “Raisa your answer is like a kindergarten student answer”. I always relieved when I get back home especially on Friday and depressed from Sunday morning “Oh God less than 24 hours I had to go back to that office, why time flies so fast”. I didn’t even want to go with my boyfriend after the office hours or during weekend as I really wanted to appreciate that precious time by myself, alone. I stayed on that job for about 6 months because I don’t want to waste my first 4 months and learn nothing than how to type fast, how to photocopy fast or how to make a good coffee. No way. I can stand this job, this is just part of the success.

“I’m not depressed, I’m not depressed, and I’m just not…depressed”. That’s the mantra that I usually repeated to strengthen myself every day. Thanks to my friend who woke me up by saying that “Maybe you just need to accept that the learning from this situation is to show that this job is….not into you”. Yes, maybe I made a mistake by taking a wrong job or not knowing what I wanted from a job, but at least I learned that “that job” is not the thing that I want.

Fellow friends, in three 3 idiots, Fairnan said that “Life is a race, if you don’t run fast you will get trampled” and like in the horse race; the record is always broken by the fastest one. So keep pushing our limit by facing our fear, having a failure and making a mistake so that we can run fast and race to Mars.

Well, kampusnya sekarang canggih banget cyiiiiinn.

Kenapa? because I have grown up.

And sometimes it's not easy.HUFT.

Kenapa saya bilang demikian?

Karena sekarang CIMB Niaga udah punya satu product baru namanya ON Account, itu mudah banget, kalao mau buka tinggal isi aja e-form yang ada di www.cimbcliks.co.id terus udah gitu saldo awalnya cuma Rp.100,000,- cui! cucok banget buat saya ketika lagi sepi project LOL. Nah selain itu, kemudahan lainnya tuh kalo kita jalan-jalan ke luar negri, CIMB Niaga bisa memberikan nilai tukar terbaik lho! terus banyak promo-promonya lagi hihihihihi

My Super Mom

If England has Margaret thatcher to rule the country, my family has my mom to rule the house.

Her wish is our command and no bodies dare to defy her words. She has a golden rule which already understood by each house members (My Father, my Sister, my Brother and even my new dog). So what is her great rule?  Rule number 1: “Mom is always right”, rule number 2: “If Mom makes mistakes look at rule number one”.  She made that rule basing on the assumption that she’s the best on knowing what the best for her family is. At first I thought it’s just an excuse for her to make it her way. But then, as time goes by I realized that “yes, she is the best at least on 3 things"

First, best to be effective, one day, on Sunday morning, I was just laying back on the couch in front of television, holding my head with my right hand, raising up my left feet and enjoying the easy Sunday. Suddenly my mom came to me “Raisa, what are you doing? Being lazy?” “No mam, I’m not lazy, I had been mopping the floor, washing the plate and cleaning up the table. I deserved to watch Shincan after everything I’ve done today. i have waited for a week mom!” “I don’t say that you cant watch the show, but you need to optimize your time. Rather than just watching the show and doing nothing, why don’t you watching and do ironing. Not only It will increase your merit as you are helping me, but also it will burn your fat” Yes, she always knows the best way to be effective, enjoying the show and burning some fat (although I ended up having back pain for ironing 4 batch of clothesline but hey I had burned some fat! At least I thought i had burn it.

Second, best on finding the right price, when we went to Bangkok, she wanted to buy a big suitcase which was offered on 1,600 bath by the madam seller. Of course her motherhood instinct turn on, she was trying to bargain and offered 600 bath instead. I thought she wouldn’t succeed, because come on her English is not that good. After a tough discussion (which was including me to do the translation and a much of using the body language) she managed to get the suitcase for 700 bath. Jeezzz, she was Bill Gates on bargaining. Even the madam seller agreed with me. “Your mom is great, she is expert! I’ve never met a customer like her! You must be proud of her”.

Third, best on being creative, like I had mentioned before, her English is not really good. So when she had to travel alone from Frankfurt to Indonesia after visited my sister there, I was worried how she would survive. But then she showed me that language barrier wouldn’t stop her for getting what she wants: to be seated near the window and not to be charged for the overweight baggage. On checking in desk “Excuse me sir, I want to seat near the window because I want to “ngolonjor” do you know ngolonjor?” “…” “Look, this is foot , do you understand?” “yes” “this foot is hurt, so I want to ngolonjor. This is ngolonjor, do you understand? Near the window, to ngolonjor I want to ngolonjor” “okay”. Then she put her baggage on the. But suddenly, her luggage were moving as the machine was on “oh noo..stoopp” hearing her hysterical voice, one passenger came to her “may I help you mam?” “my bag is red, I want to nimbang. You know nimbang? My bag is red, I just want to know, my bag is red, put it here, and then nimbang”  but she realized quickly maybe the confused officer just wanted to end the confusing conversation with her by putting in her luggage into the trunk without caring the weight  “Aha, nothing, so far so good, no problem, thank you”

Ladies and Gentlemen, my mom with all of her goodwill and limitation always tried to be best on being effective, finding the best price or being creative to strive. Because of that I hope someday I could have those qualities and i could be a super mom like her!

Happy birthday Mom *thousand kisses for you*

Stop and Install

Happiness?
That’s the simple word which is not very simple to be translated into the real world. Many psychology experts have done many experiments to understand the meaning of this word. Is it a destination or a process?  If it is a process, then why many people still chasing for this? You cannot chase the process right? For me, happiness is a process as it always changes from time to time. The things that used to make me happy in past time maybe wouldn’t make me happy now.

So what will drive the happiness?

Based on the Global Happiness Research conducted by Ipsos in 2013, it is driven by living conditions, security, environment, income, health, education and family harmony. The research which was conducted in 21 countries showed that some countries are significantly happier than other countries!

Indonesia?

With the traffic

Big flood

Where do you think Indonesia would be?

We are number 1!  55% of Indonesian respondent said that they were very happy with their current state of life. Because they considered their national economy to be 'good' with last year economy grew by 5.6%. Although the wealth was unevenly spread, with 11.4% of the population living in poverty and least satisfy with the education level. But with the positive answers about time spent with family and neighbors could overcome all of the concerns.  Why? Indonesian could always adapt to the situation.

Big float? Smile!

Traffic? Selfie!

However, this skill could be a double edge sword. As a human, we can adapt to anything, it seems—you can get your dream job, marry a wonderful human—eventually we acclimate and find new things to complain about.

Why? Because our needs are always changes. In his pyramid, Marslow mapped the human needs into 4 different levels. In his theory, the movements should be from the bottom to the upper level. But, based on my experience, it could be the other way round. When I just graduated from University, I could say that I wasn’t really care about money as I thought I had my parents to back up me and I didn’t had to support anybody, so this first two level, I didn’t need this. I could say that I was looking for Self-actualization so that by doing a job which always challenged me and made me smarter that’s my happiness. But then a few years later when I was getting older, the pressure of being independent and not be supported by my parents was getting higher. Then, my need moved into this level, I started to question whether I had been compensated enough? My happiness was decreasing.

Sometimes, life is like a flappy bird game. In this game: you need to control a funny-looking bird by tapping the screen. You need to manage the force, if it’s too hard; it would jump all over the place, if this this too weak, you would crash.

So, how we could manage the force to have a happier brain? : train our brains to appreciate positive experiences by taking the time to focus on them and install them in the brain. It is different with positive thinking. Dr. Rick Hanson, a neuropsychologist, a member of U.C. Berkeley's Greater Good Science Center's advisory board said that the fundamental distinction between activation and installation. In positive thinking, the person is not taking the extra 10, 20 seconds to heighten the installation into neural structure, so it would be wasted on our brain. We’re not taking into account so that it doesn’t learn very well.
If we get back again into my story, I realized that maybe I wasn’t took the extra time to install the positive experience when I did the job e.g. the opportunity to always keep myself actualize. So that when i had to face the negative one, i started to get unhappy.

The happiest people do not necessarily have the best thing, they simply appreciate the thing that they have.  So when life is turning into a Flappy Bird game where the forces pulling us down are just as strong as the ones pulling us up, we need to make sure that we have enough strength to manage the forces so that we wouldn’t crash sooner than we expect. Start by stop complaining and starting to appreciate good thing in our life and installing it repeatedly to grow the inner strength.

Choices?

Jokowi or Prabowo? Wait for him, or let him go? Stay or move to a new job?

We are always facing choices every  in a relationship or broke up, using taxi or ojek, passion or money, career or love life,  Jokowi or SBY. Actually, my biggest concern on making decision is the opportunity cost, the cost which arises for missing the opportunity. When I was in college, I learn (a lot) about this. Since every decision has consequences. So when I made decision, I usually use three steps.

First, Asking “why” I was making the choice at first place. I used to be a social smoker on my second year in university.  At first, I think there’s no harm being a social smoker as I thought being the passive is more dangerous than the active smoker. Actually, at that time, I had 2 different peer groups, first is the good girl and good boy gang which I usually study with, and second is not really good girl and good boy who I usually not study with. The “good gang” is always mocking me up for being a social smoker and tried to stop this habit by explaining many sophisticated reasons why I have to stop e.g. the risk of cancer or bible told us not to do so. But I have never really listened to their crap as I don’t think the reason is not strong enough. However, when I saw government cigarette advertisement on the bus, It changed my mindset. The ads said “They are becoming richer, when we are dying”. Then I realize that many executives in Cigarette Company are not smoker. The fact that they are making money by selling us the poison which they didn’t even want to consume is like a slap on my face. The feeling by for not being the cash cow for the cigarette company is the “WHY” that I need. Sometimes, you don’t need a sophisticated reason to make a change. Since sometimes the details will cloud our mind to the most fundamental question “WHY”. By looking up this question, it will help us to find our true motivation.

Second, List my options by collecting much information and weigh the possible outcome. There’s many tools that can be used to help us to make a choice i.e. OODA method (Observe, Orient, Decide, Action), or cost and benefit table or even a simple yes and no table. When I was in a dilemmatic situation such as  Facing a little kid who looks so skinny, tired and hungry, it really broke my heart that at this young age, this kid has to struggle to make money when the other kid have a great time in playground. Frankly speaking, I prefer to donate my money in a charity foundation regularly as it will be more impactful. For this particular situation, I usually make a quick mental list, yes and no list. Yes because by giving him some money he can buy a meal and survive. It also makes me feel better since my mom used to tell me to always help other. No because, the money, probably, will be used by the parents to buy cigarette or phone credit or even taken by the preman. Also, it feels like I’m supporting them to be a beggar by providing the demand. But, if I didn’t do this, probably, they really can die as I had read in newspaper that there’s a kid who died since he hasn’t eaten anything more than 2 days.  It’s so dilemmatic you know. But when I face a freak beggar who cut himself by using a razor blade without having any bleeding, I will make a very very quick yes and no table in my head. No, because I don’t want to be intimidated by him.  Yes, because he is a debus and I don’t want him to make me as debus as him by cutting my bag or even my hand. So i always go with giving him money!

Third, Using my gut. Even tough, in college I had learned many decision making tools to assist me in making decision, I realize that by the end of the day it’s just a tool. It’s all coming back to me whether I want to listen to their insight or not. I usually will use my gut to help me decide which insight that I want to use. I realize that I have to sharpen my gut so I can be more confident with my decision. I usually do this by having a moment of stillness. Basically, it’s just sit for 60 second and doing nothing. At this situation, I can confronted who really I am and hide nothing but my own truth.

So, in short, based on my experience, the key to make good decisions is understanding the reason ‘WHY’ , listening to our head (the options and possible outcome) and balancing it with following our heart. Because every decision is coming with consequences and we have to commit with that. Remember:  the art of making decision is the commitment. So use your brain and your heart and let’s decide!

Bisous!

vingt-et-un jours

Hello! it's been very long time since my last entri.  There's so many thing happened in my life which enriched my point of view to see life. Long story short, now i am working in one of advertising agency in Indonesia. In here, i could say that im quit happy with the workload, working fellas and the environment.

However, the thing that i most remembered from my job here is the pressure to look beautifully in shape. They are frequentlly talked about diets and callories. At first, im not really into that kind of stuff. I know that my body is not really in a good shape, though, i'm still happy with my self. But then, since i frequently hang out with them, i started to be more like them; person who really care about the apperance and the body shape. In addition, they also will talked about your body in a frankly way or mocking you up "raisa, lo gendutan yah?" mennnn. but the thing which is more painful is...EMANG GW GENDUTAN T___T

Then, now, i determine to make a change in my life! i will do my best to lose some weights! how? hmmm..

a few days ago, one of my office colleague told me that if we are doing something for 21 consecutive days, then it would be a habit.

hmmm... i think there's no harm to try this one. So i decided to make to do this kind of routine for the next 21 days :

1. Excersice minimum 30 minutes every morning
2. Eating apple for breakfast and dinner
3. Add some vegetables for lunch
4. No snacking during working hours

My target is to be able to fit on my favorite ZARA dress.

I will keep you posted yaaa dear fellow blogger!

cheers,

Take it for granted?

Anyway, apa yang saya maksud dengan pragmatis disini? pragmatis (menurut saya) adalah sebuah sikap yang take it for granted without having a further analysis. Well, fortunately, sikap take-it for granted saya ini sedikit demi sedikit mulai berkurang ketika saya mulai masuk ke dunia pekerjaan professional.

No wonder kadang teman saya suka mencandai kedangkalan saya.

You just need to be so good in your field, no need to understand everything.

R : "..."

BANG! It's like a big slap on my face.
Men, i have been fooled AGAIN?
havent i already read hundreds book? why i didnt know that? why i am still stupid?

Makanya kalo nge-net jangan cuma ngecek email, facebook-an, twitter-an, path-an, instagram-an,ngecek sinopsis TV series kesayangan, atau nyari novel e-book bajakan.

Jadi sekarang, gak ada yang namanya take it for granted. gak ada yang dont know.
Yang ada hanya havent known it YET!

Cheers,

Raisa

Facing the Darkness

Have you ever been in the situation when you face many choices and you are just stuck and afraid of taking decision?

Well, I have.

After I graduated from college, I found myself stuck on the intersection. I don’t know what way which I should take for my future. I didn’t know which industries that fit with my passion. Should I go to FMCG? Banking? Fashion? Media? Or oil and gas which will give me better salaries to pay my bill? At that time, I
felt I just lost and scared about my future. In bahasa we called it “galau”. I am afraid that if I make a wrong decision now, it will affect my whole future life and waste my time. It’s getting worse by seeing my peer group who already found their passion and started to chase it for example working in prestigious company, taking certain certification etc.

I was starting to lose my confidence and questioning my ability to success. I wasn’t sure whether I have good enough skill and achievement to be offered. Then, I have to face the people who like to judge me as I haven’t found any “proper job”. One of my family member even said “why would you graduate as cum laud in 3, 5 years, if you haven’t worked yet?” At that time I stunted and shocked that there is aperson who’s really that rude which made me feel worse.

In the darkness, fortunately i bumped in with a great gentleman whom I respect to. He is a president director in one of biggest multinational company in Indonesia. He asked me to explain myself and told him about my dream, and what I want to be in the future. Hence he told me “Raisa, I think you are really great. You have positive attitude, smart brain, fast learner and high adaptability. I believe that you will be a successful woman.” He remained me the positive sides of me and made me believe that there’s positive thing in me. It boosts up my self-confidence. Then, I started to leave negative people who only drag me down and surround myself with someone who could support me
.
After that, I usually compare myself with my great friends whom I usually hangout with and doing stupid thing together. During college, many of them were participating in competition or being delegates from Indonesia for international competition. However, after graduation, everything changed. While I was still figured out about what I was going to do with my life, my friends started to chase their passions by working in prestigious investment bank or business consultant, or continue their study abroad. Compare to them, my achievements were almost nothing. I felt my life was empty and worthless. Then, I shared my feeling, my emptiness, to one of my good friend. She just smile and said “Eh Raisa, Many people are dying to be in your shoes. if you said that your life is empty, what about mine? Garbage? Your life is full of color and very dynamic if you compare it with mine. Let alone to win like you, I have never been participated on any competition during college. My GPA is lower than you, also with my family’s financial condition. Is it makes me down? No! Because I knew that every person is unique and has their own strength and weakness. The thing is you need to stop comparing yourself with others and starting to be happy with your own”. And that’s what I did.

Then, I read many articles about successful figure i.e. Michael Jordan, Steve Jobs, Thomas Alfaedison .
Many of them had been failed for thousand times, million times, before they could taste the success.
The thing is they never give up and they realize when they faced the failure, they have to step up their
game. It is okay to make mistake. It’s not wasting our time. Failure will give us learning how to be a
better person.

After passed all of things,  I felt more relax and comfortable with my situation. I am more open to opportunities in my life. Then, I took the opportunity to work in marketing research industry as researcher. Well, we never know, maybe, I could be the best market researcher in Indonesia.

In life, we may are in the position where everything is dark. Where we are not sure about where to go and afraid of the darkness of the uncertainty. Based on my experience, we may want to take these steps for facing the darkness. First, have in faith in ourselves that we are able to be success and we have enough to be offered. Second, stop looking up and comparing ourselves with others. We need to realize that we are unique in our own way. Third, accept our own humanity. Accept that sometimes human are making mistakes and that’s okay. Because we are only human who’s not perfect. We need realize that there’s no such thing as certainty, the only certainty is uncertainty. So, just keep on going and trust ourselves.

Welkommen 2022 ❤❤

Hi there! its been a while since my last post here and finally it's gonna be my first post this year. How's life treating you so far...
